From Niger, Etran Finatawa. Like the band Tinariwen, they play the style of music known as “desert blues,” referring to the guitar band style coming out of the Sahara Desert region of Africa.

Judy Henske, from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. The queen of the beatniks. One of my favorite thriller-writers, Andrew Vachss, the protagonist in most of his books, Burke, often listened to Judy Henske tapes as he drove around New York. One day I decided to look for her name on the internet, and I [...]

Genesis will be remembered as the prog rock band they were until the singer quit, and the guitar player quit. Their later fame as a stadium-filler art-pop/AOR band will be forgotten. This is probably the song they’ll be most remembered for, “The Musical Box” from 1971.

PiL’s “Poptones” from their Metal Box album, 1979 Virgin Records. I read John Lydon’s autobiography, oh at least 5 years ago.
